Pray For The City, Carlisle

Drugs/Drug Addiction

At PFTC evening June 23rd, Mark Travers, (local ‘DART’ drug addiction worker) described the Carlisle/Cumbria situation and its needs; the M6 connection; gangs supplying from larger cities to Carlisle; and the desperate plight of these people.

He described the 'tip of the iceberg' problem; and encouraged us to pray about the drug dealers and to protect the up and coming generations.

Answers to prayer! See News and Star article “Heroin worth £300,000 seized at M6 service station near Carlisle”. See further testimonies.

Pray for local workers in secular and Christian organizations who help those affected by substance abuse. Pray specifically for Mark and the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Team on Botchergate.

Pray for those in authority – that they would have wisdom and miraculous insight to combat drug dealing and protect our emerging youth.

Heavenly Father, we lift to you all those whose lives have been shattered as a result of their own or others’ actions and destructive lifestyles. Please lead them through their situations to discover that there is always hope and wholeness when we turn to you in repentance and faith. In Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.

Council Prayer Request: Homelessness

The City Council has been progressing new provision for those in or facing homelessness. Firstly, there is planned a Training and Resource Centre to address aspects of life that have led to this sad situation - unemployment, lack of skills, health issues, family break up, debt, need for counselling etc.

Secondly, there is a project to build and provide better accommodation for the homeless; to improve facilities in the Men's hostel, whilst the present Family and Single Women's hostel needs replacing. The Council is working on finding a suitable site.

Pray for these projects – wisdom, finance, resources, the right people and the best site.

Lord Jesus, You sometimes had ‘no place to lay your head’; so You understand how it feels to be homeless. Thank You for every organization and individual in Carlisle that provides care and advice to those who are homeless or facing potential homelessness.

Pray and take action!
Father, how can we.., I.., the Church… engage in this needy area of homelessness in our city.

Learning Disability

At PFTC evening Feb 24th, Naomi Thompson spoke of the Causeway Projects initiative (see www.prayforthecity.org.uk and/or www.prospects.org.uk. Contact :- prospects@hebronec.net). She encouraged us to pray about the “single-mindedness of our society”.

Lord of all compassion, please draw near to anyone suffering physical, emotional or mental pain because of learning disability. Please encourage all such individuals. Forgive us for our single and narrow-mindedness. Please use me, the Church and all those involved in secular care within our city to demonstrate Your love and acceptance.

Swine ‘Flu’

It would be difficult to avoid this national issue. See local news for updates - www.cumbria.nhs.uk/News/SwineFlu.aspx

Pray for local medical, nursing and paramedical services as they respond to enquiries, treatment and provision of information. Pray reduction in the illness – but also pray for those that might seek God amidst such circumstances.
