Pray For The City Prayer Letter Issue 1 April / May 2009

Pray For The City, CarlisleDear All,

As a way of facilitating more effective prayer for Carlisle we are producing a prayer letter. Clearly, our city needs prayer as much as it ever did. It is hoped that through this medium that more specific needs, requests, suggestions, information and encouragements can be facilitated. I am sure that this will be moulded as time goes by. Please feel free to return comments to the details below.

Prayer for Carlisle

Schools.
Pray for schools in your community. Find out if there is a local school prayer meeting that you could join; or if not - why not start one. Find out what needs there are at the school. Use the website; talk to teachers and parents. Pray for local schools workers (www.niscu.org.uk). Use the CARE Schools Prayer Network – the aim is ‘for every school to be a prayed-for school’. (www.schoolsprayernetwork.co.uk).

Dear Lord, please guide those concerned with children’s educational welfare: parents, carers, teachers, family members, friends. Grant them insight, patience and encouragement as they relate to those in their care.

Pray for Christian pupils and adult employees in schools – teachers as well as caretakers, cleaners, secretaries, and other ancillary staff seeking to be effective salt and light through their witness, words and work. Remember, too, those who serve as school governors and board members.

Councillors.
At our last evening PFTC meeting in February, Cllr Olwyn Luckley shared about some of the pressures as a councillor. She asked that we

“pray for the wisdom to make the right decisions in regard to the Council's role, so that the decisions made serve well both the citizens of today and those growing up now who will be the citizens of tomorrow”. Pray accordingly.

Remember councillors of each political party, praying that God will especially guide those who look to Him for direction and wisdom.

Crime/Justice
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence” (Psalm 89:14,15 Today’s NIV)

Pray for those working in the justice system: judges, magistrates, barristers, solicitors, civil servants, court officials, probation and prison officers as well as the police.
Ask God to help them serve with integrity and impartiality, especially in difficult circumstances.

Pray for the local police force. Find out about crime in different areas of Carlisle. (http://cumbria.crimemapper.co.uk/map/). And pray God will reduce crime.

Sovereign Lord, we ask you to bestow wisdom and a desire for integrity on those who maintain order on our streets, practice law in the courts and shape government legislation. Please expose corruption and injustice and prosper all who do right. Amen.
