Causeway Prospects (Supporting People in Carlisle with Learning Difficulties)

Naomi Thompson spoke at PFTC evening February 24th.
For about 8 years I worked with people with Learning Difficulties or Mental
Health problems. I am originally Belgian and am married with one son.
We moved to Scotland in 2002; and then to Carlisle 3 years ago from Edinburgh.
I have always had a passion for working with people with Learning Difficulties; and also a passion to work for God. Peter Maiden (church elder) once mentioned Causeway Prospects in our church. I felt God was telling me to combine my passions and look for people who would like to help me start up a group.
Prospects is a Christian voluntary organisation which values and supports people with learning disabilities so that they live their lives to the full. See www.prospects.org.uk. We meet at Hebron church once a month; generally the first Saturday in the month. We worship God, sing, chat, drink coffee/tea, eat cakes, do arts and crafts, some drama, etc. There are 5 other volunteers helping me and we take it in turns to run a session, so we don't have to be present every month. We have about 4 or 5 people coming along but there is space for more!
We have an e-mail address if you are interested in coming along or helping out. We can always do with people who would like to bake for us or can play an instrument for the worship sessions - prospects@hebronec.net
Pray:-
- That we are able to reach those with Learning Difficulties in our Carlisle group; that they may experience the Love of God and feel worthy.
- That more people with Learning Difficulties come to the group and learn about Jesus.
- In general for people with Learning Difficulties. Pray about the single-mindedness of our society they have to live in. To spread awareness about their needs and aspirations.
- That we as helpers continue to grow in Christ through organizing these Causeway Prospects days; and may continue to be encouraged about our meetings.
- or our sponsored walk that is to be organized for about September.
